Steve's Recommendations

Hi.  Steve here again.  This page is a work in progress.  When it is finished, it will be filled with information, logos, and links to websites of restaurants, companies, artists, activities, products, and services that I personally recommend.  Clicking on these links will open new windows and take you to the websites of whoever or whatever you clicked on.  Remember, these are NOT paid sponsored links.  These are my personal recommendations, and I do just happen to have excellent taste - LOL!  These favorites of mine are in no particular order, although I am going to try and organize them by category (such as Favorite Restaurants, Artists, Fun Things to do in Chicago, etc.).

Based on numerous e-mails and phone calls from previous customers, I am going to go out on a limb here and state that, taking a Segway tour with Steve's Segway Tours will be the highlight of your trip to Chicago!  "That's awesome Steve", you say, "but what else should we do while here?"  I'm glad you asked me that question.  Here are my highest recommendations in no particular order:

Activities (Other than a Steve's Segway Tour)

Chicago Redcap Walking Tours - Take a walking architectual and historical tour of downtown Chicago with Chicago Redcap Tours.  These incredibly interesting and informative tours are 2 hours long and ridiculously underpriced!  I keep telling Bill Elliott - the owner of Chicago Redcap Tours, and its tour leader extroadinaire - to raise his prices, but he won't hear of it.

House Theatre of Chicago - Go to see an original play put on by Chicago's most innovative and inventive theater company - The House Theatre Company.  Ticket prices are ridiculously inexpensive and very easy to come by.  When you go, remember to tell Nathan Allen - their brilliant artistic director - that he still owes me a night out.

Architectual Boat Tour - Take an architectual boat tour along the Chicago River with Shoreline Cruises.  These tours are wonderful!  There are several companies doing architectual river tours in Chicago, but I like Shoreline's

tour guides the best.  Prices are reasonable (not great), and they have several other boat tours you can also choose from.

Bobby's Bike Hike - Rent bicycles and cruise the beautiful lakefront bike path on your own, or take Bobby's Bike Hike's extremely popular "Lakefront Neighborhoods Tour".  How about their new "Obama Bike Tour".  I haven't taken the latter yet, but I am really looking forward to it.  Prices are reasonable, and their customer service is excellent!

Museum of Science and Industry - A bit far removed from downtown Chicago, but well worth the trip.  The Museum of Science and Industry is a wonderful "hands-on" experience.  The building itself is magnificent, and the only building remaining from the famous "White City" of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.  Alas, you can no longer ask for Freddy Atkins (Facilitator #2) to take amazing care of you.  That's because he's now a Steve's Tour Guide!

Art Institute of Chicago - I can visit the Impressionists wing of The Art Institute of Chicago over and over, and never get tired of seeing one of the finest collections of Impressionist paintings in the world!  I am not a big fan of the new 265,000 sq. ft. Modern Art building, but it is definitely worth visiting.  If you have never been here, GO!  With over 5000 years of art and culture respresented, this is a must do.  Open late on Thursdays.

Millennium Park Concerts - Chicagoans have enjoyed FREE concerts in the park since 1935.  Now the Grant Park Music Festival is located at the Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park (formerly at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park) and there are free classical concerts every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, as well as rehearsals during the week, and Jazz, Music of the World, and Dance performances.  Pick up wine and food at Bockwinkle's, and enjoy the free performances.

MetrowalkZ - Looking to explore our wonderful city of Chicago a bit on your own?  On foot?  Then this is the website for you!  Metrowalkz self-guided sightseeing walking tours provide, visitors and locals alike, an opportunity to wander about our city with purpose and determination.  Metrowalkz provides downloadable maps and narratives for 11 different areas, with helpful links (CTA maps, free stuff, coupons) provided as well.

Food and Drink

Emerald Loop - This the the place we want to send you to eat and drink after a tour, or anytime you are in the north Loop or River area!  It is not the closest restaurant to us, but this is where we go, and The Emerald Loop Bar and Grill will really take care of you (show them you took our tour and get 20% off!).  The food is excellent!  Try one of the burgers on a pretzel bun, or a great salad.  Get the homemade mashed potatoes for your side.  On the South Beach diet like I have been (sort of) for a few months now?  My favorite dish?  It's a toss-up between the Irish Curry and the Tikka Chicken Masala (add onions and peppers) special on Wednesdays.  Sat and Sun Brunch 9am til 1pm, and always a great "Beer of the Month".  Located on Wabash between Lake and Wacker.
